Marine Lance Cpl. William D. Spencer
20, of Paris, Tenn.; assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Nashville, Tenn.; died Dec. 28 while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. Also killed were Cpl. Christopher E. Esckelson and Lance Cpl. Nicholas A. Miller. In such patriotic times, we as Americans show our true colors. We look at our family, our friends and our country and understand what it means to be an American. For me, it was to be a defender of this great country. Unfortunately, I am not here with you today to honor all of those lost. Instead, I am looking down with all the other fallen soldiers smiling upon our great nation. I like many other soldiers wanted an opportunity to further my education and give back to this country. With my death has come great sorrow as well as distinct honor. As part of my legacy there has been a scholarship foundation started in my name; The LCPL. Billy Spencer Scholarship Foundation “Never Let’em Forget.” This is my way of giving back. You can help by making donations to the First Financial Bank in my name. All donations go towards scholarships for local high school students wanting to make a difference in our country. “Never Let ‘Em Forget” Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ~John 15:13 |
